Butterflies In the Bee Balm

The cold of January has me yearning for the heat of summer and all of the beautiful creatures that go along with it. In particular just when I thought the bee balm was dried  up and done for in August there was a second bloom and this one fed a large gathering of butterflies. I don’t know much about butterflies but I do know they have a purpose in the garden and I go out of my way to appealing flowers for them.

Today’s video is from July 2013 and it features 2 different butterfly species. The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) is a species of swallowtail butterfly. Its fluttering friend is the Gold Rim Swallowtail or Polydamas Swallowtail (Battus polydamas) of the Papilionidae family. Among the flutterflies you can notice a few carpenter bees managing their foraging for the day too. The music as always is provided by Dano songs. So if the winter winds are keeping you indoors enjoy a peak into what will be among us in the northern hemisphere in just another 6 months.
